Entry from: Siem Reap, Cambodia Entry Title: "Settling In" Entry: "So, I'm kind of, but, not really, getting used to being the perennial, sweaty, dirtball. I'm really glad I'm not looking for Prince Charming because he would be way turned off. I must admit that my research of the region via Wikipedia fell short, to say the least. Usually before I travel I spend months with my nose in as many guidebooks as possible, I rent movies, read books, and talk to everyone I've ever met who traveled the area. However, being that this trip was booked rather spontaneously and for reasons other than self-indulgence, I used Google. When I read "cool, wet season", I figured cool and rainy. Yeah, no. Turns out, that just meant not the usual desert-dry 110 degree weather. On a more positive note, my feet are no longer swollen. No more cankles for me! There is a guy from Holland who has been traveling for a few months. He is spending two weeks in Cambodia and also volunteering with Trailblazer. There is also a biologist from Australia who is doing some fieldwork with the organization. The other workers are Cambodians. Some travel from villages 60 km away and stay in Siem Reap during the work week. Waterborne illnesses cause tens of thousands of Cambodians, mostly children to become ill and/or die every year.
